Plan your recordings

You are going to put the result of your practice and preparation on a Music support, for your own pleasure and for others. Recording is fun but also intensive creative work.
So try to be as prepared as possible to prevent irritation and fatigue. It unnecessary impacts on quality and pleasure.

Plan sufficient days of studio work

Two days of 6 hours work are better than one day of 12 hours. Once again, studio recording is very intensive and the quality of your performance must go down after some six hours. Don’t you want to have de best result and a good time?

It is better to record three songs very good (well mixed), then six numbers less perfect.

Have clear copies of your songs for everybody AND have the lyrics neatly printed out for the technician and the producer.

They are needed to avoid unnecessary searching and irritating loss of time when the singer for example wants “to repeat that second sentence of the third chorus” With the help of the lyrics, the technician can immediately look it up on the tape.

If you bring a keyboard or other equipment  to the studio, make sure to bring also the user manual.  ‘nice sound but can you turn off the reverb,  ' Uh?, is that possible? And how do I do that?’

Do not try to record all the drum takes in one or two days!.

Record per day the drum take of one or two numbers, and finish these as good as possible. Many drummers cannot keep a tight rhythm after some hours of drum recording and still have the inclination to go on. When the songs are completed, they suddenly hear all the small imperfections, and only the very best are able to record the drum takes over again.

Don't bring all your friends along to the studio.

For them the fun is much smaller and they have an impact on your concentration.
